I wrote this ritual last year and have updated the date + time and astrological information to reflect the current position of the moon in the night's sky.

Are you feeling the energy of the Solar Eclipse + New Moon in Leo on Saturday, August 11th at 2:47 am (PST)? I’ve felt a HUGGGEE resistance to the New Moon energy and honestly don’t want to do a ritual. BUT, I know that I need to do one in order to help get past what I am resisting, which is connected to what the Leo New Moon represents.
The astrological sign of Leo has a strong masculine energy after all the lion is the king of the jungle, right? The energy of the New Moon in Leo nudges you to take back your power, especially from situations and people who have drained you. On the flip side, the Leo New Moon also blesses you with a light-hearted, yet playful energy that is filled with love and generosity.
In Vedic Astrology, Solar Eclipses are the result of Rahu, the snake demon swallowing the sun. Eclipses are also believed to propel social change, not always through peace, but through chaos and agitation. The political environment south of the boarder in the USA since early 2017 has been difficult to ignore despite living in Canada, as what happens there ultimately sends ripples out into the world.
The ritual for the Leo New Moon involves cutting cords from what is draining your energy, so that you can take back your power and unleash the medicine of your inner child. Once your power has been restored and is no longer influenced by outside factors, you are able to focus your energy on setting your intentions. The New Moon is ideal for figuratively planting seeds that you want to germinate into reality. What seeds will you sow?
You can do your ritual a day before, on the day, or a day after the New Moon, as the energy is still potent. You are welcome to use my ritual or adopt parts to help you create your personalized one. Please know that you don’t need to do a ritual for each New Moon, only connect to the ones that you feel drawn to. Your ritual doesn’t need to be complicated. Can be simple as lighting a candle.
As with any ritual, create sacred space for yourself to connect with your Higher-SELF. Depending on your New Moon traditions, you may want to light a candle, make a circle, ring a bell; call in the elements, directions + guides, etc. . . I personally don’t adhere to any rules or guidelines of how to create sacred space. I follow what rises up for me in my heart space, as the energy of each New Moon is unique, and I want my ritual to reflect where I am vibrationally.
If you take a glance around your home, you will find sacred tools that connect with the energy of the New Moon and the astrological sign of Leo. The secret to creating an altar is to only use sacred tools that connect with you and hold a magical purpose in your ritual.
As with any ritual, cleansing yourself and your sacred space is a must. I’ve chosen to burn incense to connect with the Element of Fire, which rules Leo. You can use any cleansing method that you resonate with. I also called in the medicine of Durga, a warrior Hindu Goddess who is known to be fiercely protective and will stand against anything or anyone who threatens peace. Her Vahana (carrier) is the lion or tiger, which ties in perfectly with the feline energy of Leo.
A couple of weeks ago, I was tuning into a live Rich Witch Council that Lara-Rose Duong was hosting featuring a guest, and she shared a powerful exercise in which you raise both your hands up and say aloud “I call my power back to me” until you intuitively feel all your fragmented pieces of energy have return back to your soul. Lara-Rose inspired me to add the mid-year purge and tune up to the ritual! Thank-you, Lara-Rose.
Back to the ritual! To cut the cords to situations and people that you have given away your power over the last 6 months, focus on your breath and say aloud how the situation or relationships made you feel. When you are done expressing yourself say, “I release ______ and cut all attachments + cords. I call my power back to me.”
After you are finished releasing, you may experience your heart fill with peace and stillness. Now, you are ready to set your intentions for the New Moon in Leo, which is ideal for focusing on your inner child, self-expression, romance, children, or any situation that could use a bit of courage.
I’ve chosen three candles: yellow, white, and black for the New Moon ritual. On the yellow candle, using a tooth pick etch symbols, words, sigils or even an affirmation that will assist you with sowing the seeds of your intentions. You can choose any candle colour that is connect to the Element of Fire and the astrological sign of Leo. My suggestions are red, yellow, or orange.
Before you light the yellow candle, add three drops of essential oil to the wick. I chose lemon, as the citrus fruit is connected to the fiery energy of the Solar Plexus Chakra and the astrological sign of Leo. You can choose any essential oil that resonates with you. As you light the candle, focus on your intentions and visualize each one being sown into Mama Earth. You may want to go on a journey by playing your rattle, drum or singing bowl, as the yellow candle burns.
On the white candle engrave what will help you germinate and develop your intentions into reality. I recommend burning the white candle on the Full Moon on Sunday, August 26th. The black candle represents the next New Moon on Sunday, September 9th. On the black candle etch benefits of your intentions coming into fruition. Burn the black candle on the next New Moon. You can keep the black and white candles on your altar as a reminder and to energize with your energy until you burn them.
Each day until the Full Moon on August 26th, I will add a new crystal into my wooden bowl and focus on my intentions. I plan on leaving my manifestation bowl on my altar until my intentions come into fruition.
I have set aside 16 crystals that I intuitively feel embody the energy of the Leo New Moon and my intentions: pyrite, sunstone, natural citrine, honey calcite, labradorite, red tigers eye, yellow tigers eye, yellow calcite, garnet, smokey citrine quartz, lodestone, and others that I can’t remember off the top of my head. . .lol!
