Ritual for the Cancer Full Moon

Posted by Sharron Basanti on

The Full Moon enters the astrological sign of Cancer at 3:07 pm (PST) on Friday, January 6th, 2023.The Cancer Full Moon is a potent one, especially for those who identify as empaths or as highly sensitive. Cancer is a water sign; therefore, you may notice that you are feeling more deeply and desiring more emotional safety & security than usual. You may also feel drawn to strengthening relationships that require mending, especially ones in your kindred circle.

Cancers are known to love their abode and often don’t drift too far from home, as sacred space is important for them. Another abode is your body, so self-care and self-love are important themes for the Cancer Full Moon. The words self-care and self-love are often thrown around. . . BUT what’s the difference between self-care and self-love? Self-love involves you holding space to love yourself unapologetically, whereas, self-care is about making the time to connect with your mind, body, and heart so that your soul doesn't feel disassociated from the rest of you.

Going a little deeper. . .self-care requires you to constantly reflect on your foundation: are you getting enough sleep, are you moving your body enough, are you feeding your soul with notorious food and lastly are surrounded by people who love you unconditionally? And, self-love involves accepting yourself as you are and cultivating gratitude in the present moment.

With the Full Moon being in Cancer, I feel drawn to sharing a self-care and self-love spell that involves TAROT MAGICK!

Timing is EVERYTHING with any magickal working! Weaving astrology into your spells makes them even more potent. Thus, Cancer is the sign that you want to tap into when doing a spell for self-care and self-love. . .or Friday, as that day of the week is ruled by Venus, the planet of love. The upcoming Full Moon in Cancer falls on a Friday, which makes the day even more POWERFUL for spell work!

Delve deep into your heart and ask yourself if you are holding space for self-love to flourish unapologetically. . .and is your current self-care practice allowing you to thrive? What shifts do you need to make in the self-care and self-love departments in order to support the life that you want to live? Hold onto your reflections as what you unravel will be crucial for your spell work.

You can do your ritual a day before, on the day, or a day after the Full Moon, as the energy is still potent. You are welcome to use my ritual or adopt parts to help you create your personalized one. Please know that you don’t need to do a ritual for each Full Moon, only connect to the ones that you feel drawn to. Your ritual doesn’t need to be complicated. Can be simple as lighting a candle.

As with any ritual, create sacred space for yourself to connect with your Higher-SELF. Depending on your Full Moon traditions, you may want to light a candle, make a circle, ring a bell; call in the elements, directions + guides, etc. . .I personally don’t adhere to any rules or guidelines of how to create sacred space. I follow what rises up for me in my heart space, as the energy of each Full Moon is unique, and I want my ritual to reflect where I am vibrationally.

The Ritual

Before you start the ritual, I want to mention that you ideally want to keep a separate deck for spells and other magickal workings because the cards get charged with your intentions. You don’t want that energy seeping into your readings, especially those that you do for others. The readings just won't feel right!

You may want to use a deck that has missing or damaged cards, especially for rituals that involve burning, burying, or damaging the cards in another way. Not to worry there will be no damage done to your cards for the Cancer Full Moon ritual!

Take several deep breaths and when you feel grounded, light two pink candles. If you don't have pink candles on hand, you can choose another colour that you resonate with for self-care and self-love. Next, select a Court Card that represents you and place between the two candles to assist with holding space for you as you delve deeper.

According to ASTROLOGY, The Empress card is associated with Venus and The Chariot with sign of Cancer. Shuffle your deck and locate The Empress. Pull the first card in front of and also behind The Empress. The cards that surround The Empress hold potent medicine for you regarding how you can create space for self-love to flourish unapologetically! Place The Empress along with the two cards you have drawn below your significator, the Court Card.

Lastly, you’ll need find The Chariot just like you did The Empress. The cards behind and in front of The Chariot represent what can make your self-care practice more potent, so you can thrive! Add the cards below the previous ones you pulled.

Take a step back, what perspective have you gained from the cards in regards to the type of energy that you want to draw in for your self-care and self-love spell?

After you are done reflecting, place all the cards back into the deck, except your significator. Shuffle your deck and now focus on what card represents the energy that you want to draw in for self-care and then select another card for self-love. I recommend not randomly choosing a card, instead, flip through your shuffled deck until a card speaks to you.

Once you have your designated cards for self-care and self-love, place a heart shaped crystal on top of each card. . .or a stone such is rose quartz, which is extremely popular for cultivating and drawing in self-care and self-love. I used lepidolite hearts.

Spend time in the sacred space that you’ve created to connect with the self-care and self-love MAGICK rising up in your heart space. The cards that you chose create the back bone of your spell. Take a moment to see how the cards will rewrite your self-care and self-love story. Weave the magick of the cards to draw in the magick that you desire, so you feel rooted in your heart.

When you feel your heart becomes full, take a sacred pause to acknowledge the inner shifts that you have created to tap into your MAGICK, so you can draw in what you need for self-care and self-love. Allow the candles to burn down and leave the cards out as a reminder of the spell work you have done until you intuitively feel you want to return them back to the deck.

You may feel the effects of the ritual immediately, but it may also take a few days or even weeks to see changes. As with any ritual, be patient and you can always redo if you need to later.
